Looking Forward To 2027 Medicare Advantage Offerings

Some good news for Medicare Advantage enrollees for 2027

These plans, which provide coverage for 55% of the nation’s Medicare population, rely on reimbursements from the Federal government. Earlier this year, the Federal government proclaimed that Medicare Advantage plans were the cause of runaway health costs, and released 2027 reimbursement estimates at less than 1% increase.

This Wall Street Journal article reports final Federal reimbursements for 2027 at higher, more realistic rates. The article also reports that, at the earlier estimate, these plans would certainly exit some geographic markets and reduce benefits, hurting Medicare enrollees. The final rates reflect the Federal government's recognition that underfunding Medicare Advantage plans is not the solution to the problem, and would only serve to hurt seniors.

While Medicare Advantage plans are not for everyone, they certainly are popular with many seniors. While the struggle to control costs is very complicated, it is good that the Federal government recognizes that Medicare Advantage plans are part of the solution, not part of the problem.

Yours in good health,

Jeff
